About the Album

"WTC," the centerpiece of saxophonist Dave Liebman and pianist Richie Beirach's Quest for Freedom (Sunnyside, 2009), which teams the longstanding musical partners with the Frankfurt Radio Bigband for a program of large ensemble music written by Liebman, Beirach, and album arranger Jim McNeely. WTC is Liebman's response to the tragedy of September 11, 2001, a musical outpouring of grief, hope and redemption.

Featured soloists: Dave Liebman: soprano saxophone, wooden flute; Richie Beirach: piano. Guest Conductor: Jim McNeely.
