About the Album

Refugee is Maya's seventh release, a heartfelt trilingual song about the hardships and struggles of being a refugee. "... to think that Texas, the state where I live, is ground zero of the humanity crisis involving the immigrant families in the USA! I felt compelled to write this song, to create something out of my own distress, and to raise awareness with art and music, to touch people's hearts. The verses are in Portuguese with a couple of Spanish words. The chorus is in English. I also decided, with the support of Yellow House Records, to donate 50% of all Refugee sales before covered costs to Casa Marinella, a wonderful organization in Austin which provides shelter, food and full supportive services to homeless immigrants."

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
