Fiona's Comments
An offering of free jazz for the feature track today. Don't bother bringing matches, because Akira provides both flame and fire to this monster of a song. Fans of late Coltrane should have plenty to like here. Myself, I don't wander to the free jazz side of the room much these days, but this track was completely engaging. I'd imagine it would appeal even more to those whose ears search this out. Nice.
About the Album
The piece "Nagoya 2" comes from legendary saxophonist Akira Sakata's first album as leader to be released only in the U.S. during a five decade career. Recorded during a 2008 Japan tour with guitarist Jim O'Rourke and rhythm crew of percussionist Chris Corsano and double bassist Darin Gray (aka Chikamorachi). This quartet has nailed its own unique 'n' volatile tension and symmetry during its past six years together.
