About the Album
"Evening Prayer" is the first track off of Juhani Aaltonen & Iro Haarla's latest album "Kirkastus". Saxophonist/flutist Juhani Aaltonen and pianist/harpist Iro Haarla release a collection of quiet, contemplative duets that at times reach powerful crescendos. The music featured on "Kirkastus" is all composed by Iro Haarla. While a couple of the compositions have been performed before, most were composed specifically for this recording with a number of them being inspired by Haarla’s favorite psalms. In addition to his customary tenor saxophone and flute, Aaltonen also plays the alto and bass flutes that add to the sound world of this recording as do Haarla’s harp and chen that complement her piano.
