Oh for Afa right now. Turn down the hurricanes and heap on the harmonies.

About the Album

AFA (Mezza) The Italian word ‘afa’ means sultry weather. The composition was inspired by a Middle Eastern scene on a very hot day where one is not quite sure if there is an oasis in the distance or not. This was the first tune that brought Mark and Vittorio together in a musical sense when they first met in the USA in 2009. Convergence documents a dialogue between two highly individual personalities: Vittorio Mezza, an accomplished jazz performer with strong classical roots and a love for Mediterranean life. And saxophonist Mark Ginsburg, who was shaped by the experience of growing up in South Africa, influenced by the music of his Jewish roots and the heartbeat of Africa. The subtle tension between their differences and similarities makes this collection of ballads and slowburning mood pieces, of pulsating ensemble passages and vocal harmonies feel astoundingly unified.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
