You could drive a million miles on a Fred Hersch CD. Fresh, gentle on the ear and sparky.
"West Virginia Rose" and "Home Fries" form a two-track medley on the Fred Hersch Trio's new record, "Floating" (July 8, 2014 on Palmetto Records). Unlike the Trio's previous release, their critically acclaimed double-album, "Alive at the Vanguard" (Palmetto 2012), "Floating" captures the group in studio, playing with nonpareil rhythmic resourcefulness, ravishing lyricism, and telepathic interplay. It is the band's first studio album in four years. Fred Hersch: piano;
John Hébert: bass;
Eric McPherson: drums.
You & The Night & The Music; Floating; West Virginia Rose (For Florette & Roslyn; Home Fries (For John Hebert); Far Away (For Shimrit); Arcata (For Esperanza); A Speech to the Sea (For Maaria); Autumn Haze (For Kevin Hays); If Ever I Would Leave You; Let's Cool One.
