Fiona's Comments

Yabba dabba doo time...we'll have a gay old time...Bet the Flintstones wish they had this one. Humans, we've come a long way...the further the better. Happiness.

"Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices."

About the Album

Felipe Salles’ "Ugandan Suite," out May 20, 2014 on Tapestry Records, is a visionary recording that brings together jazz, classical and African music. Salles drew inspiration for the album from his 2011 Whiting Fellowship Grant-supported research trip to the East African nation of Uganda. Each movement of the five-part suite is a musical reflection of the animal for which it is named. Utilizing the rhythms and musical styles of the various regions where Salles encountered the wildlife, the movements also integrate native Ugandan instruments alongside instruments associated with the Western Hemisphere. FElipe Salles: tenor and baritone saxophones, flutes, bass clarinet and handclaps;

David Liebman: wooden flute, soprano and tenor saxophones;

Damascus Kafumbe: (o)mugalabe, (e)ngom'enene, (e)nduumi, kadodi, inemba, indonyi, mbuutu, mpuunyi, atin bull, min bull, ngalabi drums, ndingidi tube-fiddle, adungu bow-harp, nsaasi gourd shakers, madinda xylophone;

Rogerio Boccato: all other percussion, (e)nduumi drums, handclaps;

Nando Michelin: piano, handclaps;

Keala Kaumeheiwa: bass, handclaps;

Bertram Lehmann: drumset, atin bull drums, handclaps;

Lucas Apostoleris: handclaps.
