About the Album
Opening track to banjoist Ryan Cavanaugh's latest release, Ryan Cavanaugh & No Man's Land (Self Produced, 2010). With his regular band - bassist Kevin Knapp, keyboardist Tyson Rogers and drummer Bryon Larrance - the track also features Bill Evans, with whom Cavanaugh has recorded and toured in the saxophonist's Soulgrass band.
A logical extension of that work, "Grand Dragon" positions Cavanaugh as a significant composer, performed and bandleader; a player who combines bluegrass technique with a broader jazz vernacular and no shortage of fusion energy.
Tracks
Grand Dragon; Long in the Tooth; The Ballad of Edgar Boone; Johnny Mac; Wayne's Tune.
