About the Album

In composing for his new recording, trumpeter Thomas Marriott purposely left much open in the music to allow his group of master improvisors to fill in the blanks. Sparring with saxophonist Hans Teuber along with the rhythm section of pianist Gary Versace, bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer John Bishop, Marriott lets his 6th recording for Origin unfold at its own pace, revealing an almost orchestral palette of moods, textures and dynamics. "...the influences are but shadows; at core Marriott is his own man, conjuring shapely melodic counters." David Dupont, Cadence
