About the Album

8 Out began in 2015 with a pre-chorus of outside intervals that builds into a chorus with bebop melody and an augmented, harmonic twist. The early composition was set aside until 2018. After an Independent Music Award nomination, pre-production continued from spring 2018 until mid-December. Jordan Perlson (drums) performs the indicated drum breaks freely, leading Cody McCorry (electric bass) and Brian Lawlor (piano / pad) into musical spontaneity. The playing is intentionally stripped down beginning at the guitar solo, and then builds like the pre-chorus. Michael Ghegan (saxophone) blows a visceral solo from the bridge, urged on by bass guitar with a devil-may-care attitude. Solos by Adam De Lucia (electric guitar) and Perlson add character to a stirring composition.

A modern classic production was achieved with the use of vintage Fender amplifiers, Acoustic Amplification, Ampeg Portaflex, and Vox AC30 with alnico speakers. Also, the Blumlein technique and vintage microphones were chosen for appropriate application and color at Lakehouse Recording Studios in Asbury Park, NJ. A Neve 8024, one of the few remaining in existence, colored the recording for a glued-together sound. Tim Pannella mastered 8 Out on tape with an Otari MTR-10 at Lakehouse for added warmth and character.
