About the Album
A jaunty melody written over an Afro Cuban groove called rumba guaguanco, expressed in 7/4 time, hence the title. My name is Ilios Steryannis, I am a jazz drummer and composer in Toronto, ON. I’m thrilled to announce that I have a brand new album called "Bethany Project" coming out in January of 2018 that is looking like one of the most anticipated albums of the coming year! The album was recorded in July of 2017 at Number 9 Audio Group, with highly acclaimed SOCAN award winning producer and guitarist Eric St-Laurent at the helm. The album features a wide variety of styles, moods and textures, ranging from Coltranesque post bop to charging West African grooves, with some Mediterranean and Afro-Cuban flavours mixed in. Two time JUNO nominee Sundar Viswanathan is featured on all tracks, playing alto and soprano saxophones Bethany Project will be released internationally on Friday, January 12th, 2018.
