About the Album

Common Ground is the third recording by the KMJO (The Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra) and Kirk's thirteenth as a leader. This CD is a follow-up to Kirk's 2015 Juno Award Winning album, Vista Obscura (AJR025). The KMJO's debut performance was in 2004. Since then, the group has performed extensively, released 2 CDs and developed a book that consists of over 35 compositions of Kirk's, arranged by some of Canada's finest composers/arrangers. The band's debut CD, Deep Shadows (AJR009) was nominated for a Juno Award in 2012. This was followed by Family Suite for Large Ensemble (AJR013), a reworking of Kirk's quartet album Family Suite. The KMJO is comprised of world class musicians and soloists, and features many of Canada's most accomplished and celebrated jazz musicians. With an established reputation as one of Canada's leading saxophonists and composers, Kirk MacDonald has received numerous awards. For over thirty years Kirk has worked and recorded with many leading Canadian, US and International jazz musicians. He has performed on over fifty CDs.
