About the Album

Fujii’s "Shiki" (out May 27, 2014 on Libra Records) is the ninth release with her New York Orchestra to appear over the last 18 years. The album is dominated by Fujii's vast, eventful, 40-minute title piece, but also includes her prayerful "Gen Himmel," a tribute to the late bassist Norikatsu Koreyasu that she originally recorded on her 2013 solo piano album by the same name. The Satoko Fujii Orchestra New York features: Oscar Noriega, Briggan Krauss: alto sax;

Ellery Eskelin, Tony Malaby: tenor sax;

Andy Laster: baritone sax;

Natsuki Tamura, Herb Robertson, Steven Bernstein, Dave Ballou: trumpet;

Curtis Hasselbring, Joey Sellers, Joe Fiedler: trombone;

Satoko Fujii: piano;

Stomu Takeishi: bass;

Aaron Alexander: drums;
