The Act of Loving You (Self Produced) by Odessa Chen with the Invisible Stories Ensemble
Places of Bjork punctuation and Kate Bush tone. Quite familiar in a juxtaposed intense/whimsical way. Chamber folk is a strong description for simple, thoughtful pop. #feelinarthausdarlings
The Act of Loving You is an extension of Odessa Chen’s creative efforts with chamber musicians, and a concise expression of her vital and heartfelt form of chamber-folk. In collaboration with composer/arranger Max Stoffregen, drums and bass were replaced by an ensemble of string quartet, 2 bass clarinets, vibraphone and piano, and her voice given focus and illumination against a vibrant backdrop of acoustic instruments played by some of the SF Bay Area’s most versatile performers. Recorded straight to tape at Tiny Telephone by Jay Pellicci, the album has the energy, character and wonderful imperfection that honest analog recording helps bring out. Players: Odessa Chen: vocals; Max Stoffregen: piano, arrangement; Emily Packard: violin; Natasha Makhijani: violin; Shaina Evoniuk: viola; Adaiha MacAdam-Somer: violincello; Jon Russell: bass clarinet; Jordan Glenn: vibes + percussion.comments powered by Disqus
