About the Album

Blues for Lester is a quirky mix of contemporary jazz, blues, funk, and a touch of contemporary classical. It's an expression of my admiration for Lester Young, the great jazz tenor saxophonist. Especially, for his linear harmonic concepts, quirky ways of playing around with time, and for those moments in his playing that cause my jaw to drop open and laugher to come out in sheer amazement and delight. The musicians on the recording are Amy Leonard, violin; Jason Shapiro, tenor saxophone; E. Shawn Qaissaunee, guitar; Peter McCarthy, bass; and Skip Rohrich, drums.
