Hell of an introduction by way of a debut album. Lots going on at all times, but remains very listenable. I was pretty stunned the first time I heard music from this album, and a month later, that feeling hasn't waned. Very promising addition to the jazz landscape.
About the track
The debut album signals the definitive arrival of trombonist and composer, John Yao. Demonstrating a broad textural palette and drawing from an array of stylistic influences, Yao explores the concept of opposing forces—of chaos and order, together and apart, individual and group. The band is comprised of John Yao (Trombone), Jon Irabagon (Alto & Soprano Saxes), Randy Ingram (Piano), Leon Boykins (Bass) and Will Clark (Drums).
