Waltz for Talia
Waltz for Talia (Self Produced) by Jon Raney
Song has that intoxicating sense of ominous tension even though it could easily be summed up as a pretty tune. It's the same kind of musical duality that I find compelling in many of John Zorn's spiritual-themed compositions. A rainy-day jazz sort of album that could easily fit into the Origin/OA2 label's catalog. Jazz from NYC.
The initial motives for "Before I Close My Eyes" were composed on the subway, after which I used the record-listen-continue-repeat method I employed fairly often at the time. The song's album Waltz for Talia is dedicated to my lovely daughter.
