Narratives (Self Produced) by Steven Lugerner

Editor's Comments

Aptly titled album, as the recording has the intimate feel of a good epic novel. Has sort of a Guillermo Klein meets Brian Blade feel to it. Nice layering of sounds, seamless in their construction. There's some guitar work on this album I love, odd playing that's so deftly ambient. Deserving of Album of the Year consideration.

About the track

Musically maturing around San Francisco's burgeoning hardcore/metal scene and the city's diverse cultural environment, Narratives was conceptualized with a wide-reaching aesthetic. Each member of the band was selected for their specific sound, with trumpeter Itamar Borochovs idiosyncratic trumpet style balancing Lucas Pinos tenor virtuosity; pianist Glenn Zaleskis improvised symphonies colored by guitarist Angelo Spagnolos sonic manipulations; anchored by the fat rhythm section of Ross Gallagher on bass and Michael Davis on drums.
