The virtuosic bassist-composer Charnett Moffett just released The Art of Improvisation, his 10th solo outing and debut with Motema Music. A seasoned veteran, Charnett has collaborated with jazz legends Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, and Herbie Hancock and was named one of the best bassists of the 21st century by All Music Guide. On The Art of Improvisation, Moffett claims new sonic territory in an unprecedented dialogue between acoustic, fretless, and piccolo basses. Special guests include Will Calhoun of Living Colour, Tibetan vocalist Yungchen Lhamo, and Angela Moffett who recites the words of Langston Hughes on the inspiring rendition of "Dreams." The collection closes with a version of "The Star Spangled Banner" that Details magazine claims would have made Jimi Hendrix weep."
