About the track

"Mr. Satchmo" was written by my grandfather, Leon Rene, to pay tribute to his friend, Louis Armstrong. He grew up at the same time in New Orleans as Louis and played in rivaling bands as a pianist. Louis used Leon's song "When It's Sleepytime Down South" as his theme song and performed it everywhere he went. Playing with me are Larry Goldings - organ, Bill Armstrong - trumpet, Larry Koonse - guitar and Mark Ferber - drums.
