Sepia toned vocalist Datri Bean began playing the piano at the age of 5 after falling in love with her mother's scratchy old Scott Joplin records. She attended the Boston Conservatory of Music, but found that she preferred to play early jazz and stride piano. She soon left Boston and began composing her own songs, drawing on influences like Hoagy Carmichael, Billie Holiday and Fats Waller. Slow Down Summertime is her debut album.
